Westkapelle

The characteristic village of Westkapelle, also called "Wasschappel", is located behind the kilometer-long sea dike on the westernmost tip of Walcheren. Despite the fact that more and more tourists find their way to this pearl, the village is ideal for a peaceful relaxing holiday. Westkapelle is a village with a historic status. The village originated around the time of the Vikings and the population mainly lived from fishing. At the beginning of the 15th century a storm flood caused a lot of damage, which led to the construction of the Westkapelle Zeedijk shortly afterwards.

Every year the fair takes place in Westkapelle, with the age-old 'Gaaienschieten' tradition as the highlight. In addition, events such as ring riding and juggling are characteristic of the village where the specially worn traditional costume returns. There are also old remains from the bombing, such as bunkers and the Mill the Noordman.
